WHAT IF #13: What If the Rich Young Ruler Gave It All?

Imagine this—
He hears Jesus say:
“Sell everything, give to the poor, then follow Me.”
And instead of walking away,
he says,
“Okay.”

He liquidates his assets.
Hands out coins on dusty streets.
Trades security for surrender.
Joins the Twelve.
Writes letters.
Maybe even dies a martyr.
History would know his name—
not as the one who walked away,
but as a disciple who let go.

The Alternate Ending

We might quote his epistles today.
Churches might bear his name.
He could’ve been a pillar,
a voice echoing through centuries.

Instead?
His wealth became his cage.
And the key was in his own hands.

The Reality Check

Sometimes the hardest thing to give up
is the thing that defines us.
Money.
Status.
Control.

Jesus didn’t ask for coins—
He asked for the throne of his heart.

Why This Hits Home

What’s the “one thing” for you?
The treasure you grip so tightly
that you can’t grip grace?

Reflect & Respond

📜 Scripture to Meditate:
Matthew 19:21 – “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

🙏 Personal Prayer:
“Lord, loosen my grip on anything that keeps me from You. Be my greatest treasure.”

✍ Journal Prompt:
If Jesus asked you to give up one thing right now, what would it be—and why does it feel so hard?
